Dinesh Jackson Samuel is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Marcu Lab, University of California, Davis. He is an eminent researcher in biomedical imaging and computer vision for surgical robotics. His research interests also span computer vision (with a focus on human activity detection), machine learning, human-centric, neuroscience-inspired artificial intelligence and surgical robotics. He worked as a Research Fellow in the department of Imaging Physics, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, United States. He also worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher and Associate Lecturer in the Faculty of Technology, Design and Environment in the Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, UK from 2019 to 2021. He is awarded the Doctor of Philosophy from Vellore Institute of Technology, India in year 2019, and received his Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Anna University, India. He has experience in working with many real-world projects namely, the SARAS (Smart Autonomous Robotic Assistant Surgeon) project which aims at developing a next-generation cognitive autonomous system for solo surgery. During his Ph.D, he worked on developing a “Tuberculosis (TB) Detection System using Deep Learning Techniques” which assists technicians in high disease prevalent countries. This exceptional work has been appreciated by the Union minister of India, Smriti Irani, for women & child development and textiles. He has filed two patents with Intellectual Property India. He authored/co-authored many international journal articles, book chapters and conference proceedings.
